It's a promising start, but I had to drop Stattoo pretty quickly for a few of reasons. Firstly... Statoo constrains it's widgets to be in a rectangular area at the bottom of the screen, and I have found that that the area of the desktop that are most likely to be exposed on my machine are the sides, so that's where I put my Konfabulator widgets (actually I put them at top left 'coz that causes Kon to freak out least when I switch displays, but that's their problem.) Secondly, the widgets don't do anything when you click on them - a mail widget should invoke Mail.app, a versiontracker widget should invoke versiontracker. Finally, and this is the real deal-breaker... no way to display temperatures in centigrade. Doh!
Still, worth watching... v2 should be interesting.
Update: I got in touch with Panic about the above issues, and got a very quick response back from Cabel Sasser - and he pointed out some things that fix my big issues. 1) The weather capsule respects the units setting in System Preferences -> International -> Formats** 2) You can drag the dock, but only up and down the screen - but this is good enough for now. One thing to watch for though is that you can only drag the dock by its bottom edge.
**Gotta admit, the mere existence of this setting was news to me, let alone that there was something that respected it.
